19th Century French Napoleon III Period Walnut Salon Chair is a marvelous example of French master craftsmanship, rendered in sumptuous walnut that is considered the finest indigenous furniture wood in Europe!  Crafted during the twilight of the Napoleon III era, its frame is completely hand-sculpted, and depicts a variety of Baroque and Rococo-inspired motifs.  The naturalistic form of the seatback has been lavished with asymmetrical foliates, facing crescents with webbing, wildflower sprays and scallop shell edges.  The crescent-shaped opening between the uprights and the seatback is there for both visual appeal and for grasping from the rear to move the chair.  Acanthus fronds reach up from the seat surface to complete the seatback.  The lower framework that encircles the rather generously sized seat is lavished with complementary hand-carved sculpting with four gracefully scrolled legs finely adorned and tipped with escargot scrolls.  A fine damascene pattern appears on the silk upholstery blending rose and camel colors for a nice neutral impact.
