A wonderful set of three 18th century Dutch Delft tiles, each hand painted in cobalt blue upon a white tin glazed ground. The individual scenes include a flowering plant, a fanciful fish fountain, and a figure within a pastoral landscape, all surrounded by traditional corner motifs. Together, they reflect the imagination and decorative character that made Delft tiles an enduring part of Dutch interiors.
Tiles such as these were originally used to ornament fireplaces, kitchens, corridors, and paneled rooms, bringing narrative scenes and lively blue and white decoration into the home. Now arranged vertically within a simple wood frame, this antique grouping becomes an appealing wall plaque that preserves the individual character and centuries old surface of each tile.
One tile has been repaired. A separate framed plaque composed of two additional 18th century Delft tiles is also available.
