An antique French Louis XVI armchair by Hirler of Alsace, crafted in mahogany, pairs neoclassical elegance with the comfort of a gracefully curved back. The crest rail sweeps in one continuous arc into the arms, which end in carved acanthus terminals. Deep green leather covers the seat and back, outlined with antique brass nailhead trim that catches the light.
A band of Greek wave carving runs along the seat rail, and carved rosettes mark the corner blocks above fluted and tapered front legs, with the rear legs splaying gently for stability. Made by the Hirler firm of Mulhouse, the chair reflects the enduring appeal of the Louis XVI style, prized for its clarity of line and restrained classical ornament.
At a desk, in a library, or beside a fireplace, it brings tailored refinement to traditional and transitional interiors.
The original matching Louis XVI desk by Hirler, carved with the same Greek wave motif, is also available. See Related Products below left.
