19th Century Gilded & Painted French Louis XVI Firescreen with Tapestry was designed to provide an attractive cover for the fireplace during the summer months, as well as provide a shield from radiant heat that was perhaps too intense for those sitting closest to a blazing fire during the winter months.  This example features a light and airy design, with a frame both painted and highlighted in gold which accentuates the bordering and carved detail of ribbon and acanthus plumes.  The highlight, of course, is the oval shaped centerpiece with a hand-woven tapestry in a timeless Baroque-inspired design with colorful floral bouquet completely surrounded by stylized scrollwork.  Light enough to move anywhere in any room, it will make a great designer accent!
