19th Century French Louis Philippe Gilded Mirror is a wonderful example of the genre, with subtle embossed pattern showing through the original gold leaf finish all set in a very elegant yet tailored design that is a hallmark of the period. Such mirrors were prized for their ability to amplify ambient light and reflect the design elements in the room. Many feel that such mirrors make a room "look" larger. Note the original plank backing installed to protect the silvering.
