19th Century French Henry II Neoclassical Walnut Commode with Rouge Marble is distinguished by its richly patinated walnut, crowned with a rouge marble top and retaining its original bronze hardware.  The piece has a strong architectural presence, with fluted side columns, deeply molded drawer fronts, carved rosettes, and a rhythmic carved frieze beneath the marble that gives the commode depth, dignity, and period character.
The Henry II style became especially admired in France during the 19th century, when Renaissance Revival design brought renewed appreciation for bold carving, classical proportion and architecture, and finely crafted walnut furniture.  Pieces such as this were created to bring substance and refinement to gracious interiors, often used in formal bedrooms, libraries, salons, or entry halls where their sculptural quality could be fully appreciated.
The rouge marble top adds warmth and richness, beautifully complementing the deep brown walnut and the aged brass tone of the original pulls. With three spacious drawers and a refined, commanding silhouette, this commode remains wonderfully versatile today. It would be striking in an entry, dining room, living room, bedroom, or beneath a mirror or painting as shown.
A matching original queen size bed is also available at this time, offering a rare opportunity to create a beautifully coordinated French Henry II bedroom suite.  But only if you act fast!  See Related Products below left.
