19th Century French Louis XVI Rosewood Queen Bed brings to life the neoclassical revival that occurred during the reign of Napoleon III. Executed in exotic imported rosewood, it features veneers with oriented grain patterns to create intriguing visual effects on the head and foot boards. The design was influenced by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and includes a rectilinear form accented by a subtly arched crown centered with boldly sculpted representations of the torchere and carquois de fleche, two symbols of the French monarchy representing the power and longevity of the crown. The artworks are symbolically held together with ribbon and flanked by floral sprays, leading the eye down to the corners upon which are mounted carved finials. The foot board features a pair of rosettes above and below the columns and an understated elegance of form in molded design with just a touch of carved detail centered on the lower apron. Turned legs provide support. Even the rails have been finely molded and treated with the same adornment as appears at the bottom of the foot board.
