Grand in scale and beautifully composed, this French Louis XVI style buffet is a refined mid 1900s interpretation of neoclassical design, influenced by the sophisticated furniture style associated with Maison Jansen. Crafted from solid mahogany and crowned with a generously proportioned Carrara marble top, the long architectural form is softened by broad rounded ends that lend the piece a graceful presence while allowing comfortable movement around it.
Five drawers and five cabinet doors provide exceptional storage across the expansive case. Three central cabinets open to spacious shelved interiors, while the rounded cabinet at the right offers three additional storage surfaces. The left rounded cabinet was later fitted as a bar, with a mirrored interior and curved glass shelves that beautifully display stemware, decanters, and bar accessories. This thoughtful adaptation remains both attractive and highly functional.
The upper drawers are lined in felt, with the two outer drawers designed to pivot outward in keeping with the rounded form of the ends. Fluted columns divide the central and curved sections, enriched with cast brass capitals, decorative mounts, and collars. Coordinating brass ring pulls, keyguards, and sabots provide a restrained sense of luxury against the warm mahogany.
The shaped Carrara marble top follows every curve of the cabinet below, with a beveled edge that emphasizes the quality of the construction and the fluidity of the silhouette. The result is an impressive mid 1900s interpretation of Louis XVI design, combining traditional French antique references with the polished sophistication and practical luxury associated with Maison Jansen style.
