Pair 19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Mahogany Armchairs represent an interesting era and reflect the tastes of an ambitious monarch.  Many are not aware that during his reign the architectural masterpiece of Versailles was saved from falling into ruin, for which we have ample thanks!  The styles that emanated from this time are also universal in appeal, when coupled with French quality of craftsmanship and the sheer natural beauty and longevity of mahogany from the Americas, results in a timeless family heirloom.  Note the elegant scroll of the seatback frames, with arched crown, and connected to gracefully scrolled armrests tipped with a nautilus shell form, with scrolled support on contoured and carved plinths that leads to the scrolled legs below.  The rear legs are curved back to increase the stability of the design.  Upholstered in mohair during the last decade or two, they're ready to serve your household or office for many more decades to come!
