Dating to the late nineteenth century, this antique pair was hand carved from solid walnut and retains an aged painted finish whose gentle patina gives the chairs an especially romantic presence.
Each armchair features a finely carved oval back crowned with a delicate rose motif and framed by spiral ribbon molding. Carved foliate plumes descend along the back supports, while the open arms curve gently toward padded rests. Additional ribbon carving surrounds the seat rail, punctuated by square rosettes above tapered and fluted legs.
The soft rose silk upholstery complements the pale painted finish beautifully, bringing warmth and femininity to the neoclassical design. The fabric displays appropriate signs of age and may be enjoyed in its present condition or preserved as inspiration for future reupholstery.
