A striking pair of 19th century French Louis XVI bergères, hand-carved in walnut and found on our buying trip in Paris.  These elegant armchairs embody the feminine refinement of the Louis XVI classical style, with a tall, sculptural silhouette, beautifully shaped arms, and crisp neoclassical carving throughout.  The frames are richly detailed with fluting, beading, and finely carved ornament that lend the chairs a polished, tailored look, while the warm walnut patina gives them depth, softness, and that unmistakable sense of age and authenticity.
Their generous scale and enveloping form make them especially inviting, balancing graceful line with a strong architectural presence.  Original circa upholstery is lovely and serviceable, though they may want to be recovered in the future.  As a pair, they bring romance, elegance, and the enduring beauty of French design to any interior, as well as wraparound comfort for which the design has become renowned.
