Pair 19th Century Italian Walnut Renaissance Revival Dagobert Armchairs are derived from a design that dates back millennia to ancient Egypt!  The criss-cross placement of the framing creates a cradling effect, yet the legs curve out for extra stability.  Here we see fine craftsmanship from Italian artisans, with meticulous attention paid to construction, and even more effort expended in adornment, with a variety of Renaissance themes expressed in full relief and bas relief across the canvas of each chair's framework.  The seat back features three shield motifs above which appears a lion's face flanked by acanthus plumes, with the scrolled cornerposts of the uprights also carved with acanthus motif.  The fluted armrests boast animal faces, each one unique, poised at the tips.  This pair will make an excellent addition to any masculine decor, and can be made even more comfortable with the addition of small square cushions upholstered in coordinating fabric, of course!
