18th Century Country French Oak Trunk in Stripped Oak is a remarkable example of essentials during a bygone era!  Trunks were the first examples of cased furniture, and from that humble beginning, all other cased furniture designs evolved, such as buffets and armoires.  This example, rendered from solid old-growth oak, displays wonderful carved detail in the style of Louis XV, with elaborate scrolled molding surrounding naturalistic raised panels on three sides.  Although the panels are very asymmetrical, on the front they have been positioned in a mirror image pattern, flanking a center section carved with a four-point diamond pattern.  The sides of solid oak are joined together with hand-cut dovetailing, and the flared base is enhanced with beam feet.  The top lifts open to reveal the spacious interior and a lidded candle box, which was designed to securely keep those most precious items that allowed life at night.  The top is affixed with the original hand-forged iron strap hinges, and has been reinforced at some point in its life with two chamfered braces.  The entire piece has been lovingly stripped by our expert in-house staff using our proprietary non-toxic method that preserves the patina of the wood, and leaves a soft, natural color and appearance.
