18th Century Country French Trunk in Stripped Oak will make the perfect choice for the foot of the bed, as a toy bin in a child's bedroom, or even as a casual coffee table that just happens to offer splendid storage!  Considered indispensable in its day, such trunks were crafted using time-honored techniques handed down from generation to generation, and in this case from local indigenous old-growth white oak.  A blacksmith was called upon to create the hand-forged strap hinges, side handles, and even the lock works.  The locks were necessary due to the fact that candles would be stored within, and candles were a precious commodity indeed during those days.  The candle compartment can be seen mounted to the side of the interior, and this example features additional drawers underneath the candle box that could be used for jewelry or other precious keepsakes.  Using our proprietary process, the finish has been stripped leaving the patina of the wood and revealing its natural beauty.
