Historic 18th century Dutch carved oak trunk combines the character of a traditional coffer with the practical function of a short buffet. Hand-crafted from thick planks of solid oak using pegged joinery, it retains its original liftable lid, decorative iron strap hinges and beautifully aged patina. The façade is distinguished by deeply carved geometric panels with diamond motifs, vertical fluting and iron escutcheons.
At some point during its long history, the original front was skillfully divided and adapted to form two doors, allowing easy access to the interior while preserving the early carving and much of the original construction. A full-width shelf was added inside, enabling the antique trunk to serve as a versatile buffet for tableware, linens or household necessities, while the hinged top continues to provide traditional trunk access.
Molded trim, sturdy side panels and broad runner feet complete its strong architectural profile.
