19th Century French Gothic Hall Bench is an exceptional example of the revival of the style during the mid-1800s!  Hand-sculpted from dense, old-growth elm wood, its design includes foliate finials atop rosettes that flank a gallery rail across the seat back top.  Four panels on the seat back exhibit two mirrored designs in a superlative naturalistic form set on a geometric molded background for a quintessential Gothic effect.  The same treatment is repeated on the trunk portion of the bench, with both the upper and lower tiers flanked by carved spiral half-columns on the corners.  Diamond panels with foliate carvings on the sides are elegantly crafted.  Look closely and you'll see the pegged mortise & tenon joinery.  The bench seat lifts up to provide storage as an added bonus!
