19th Century Country French Bonnetiere ~ Petite Armoire from Normandie is an exceptional example of the breed!  Sculpted from dense, old-growth indigenous oak, it features the classic chapeau de gendarme cornice atop the beautifully carved crown centered with a basket of flowers in full relief flanked by wildflower sprays.  The arched form is continued on the single door, along with elegantly scrolled molding, and including an oval sculpture at the middle depicting the dove of peace centered in a trefoil enhanced with more wildflower carvings.  The rounded cornerposts are carved top and bottom, where they flank the finely carved apron, terminating in escargot scrolls on the feet.  The door opens wide to reveal surprising storage!  Ideal for cozy niches, entryways, or narrow spots on the wall, such pieces were revered and appreciated by their original owners who desired storage in style!
