Pair Napoleon III Period Ebonized Marble Top Vitrines ~ Display Cases were crafted during the waning years of the last monarch of France, using an intriguing process that infuses the wood grain with carbon to create the effect of ebony, first appearing in Japan centuries ago.  Classically inspired architecture defines this pair as undoubtedly French, with fluted pilasters topped with carved corbels forming the cornerposts, and Greek wave designs dancing across the upper bonnet, intertwined with thistles and flanked by rectangular rosettes.  The original beveled glass set in the door is of a very subtle cross shape, with the corners accented with small rosettes.  Note that one door is hinged on the left, while the other is hinged on the right.  Fine molded detail pervades the design from top to bottom, with the base supported by turned feet in an urn shape.  For the surface, interesting marble with various shades of gray with white veining creates the perfect carefree top.  Open the doors to reveal the original shelves, each set upon brackets that are adjustable in height.
