18th Century Swedish Whitewashed Bible Box was designed to hold invaluable books and essentials like candles in a secure fashion yet still easily transportable from room to room, or home to home.  Hand-crafted from solid pine, it features dovetailed corner joints, and forged steel strap hinges and handles.  The top opens to reveal the space inside which includes a side compartment with its own lid for keeping the candles separate, similar in the way they were stored in larger trunks and blanket chests.  Both books and candles were valuable commodities in this era, hence the lockbox for security purposes.  The whitewashed finish shows lovely signs of weathering and aging, only adding to the charm and attractiveness of this rustic Swedish heirloom.
