Pair of Renaissance Revival Brass Dragon Candlesticks are wonderfully sculptural in form and full of the dramatic imagination associated with 19th century historicist design. The Renaissance Revival movement looked back to the grandeur, symbolism, and fantasy of earlier European decorative arts, often incorporating mythological creatures, bold silhouettes, and richly modeled ornament.
Each candlestick is formed as a winged dragon with a curled tail, arched neck, clawed feet, and sweeping wings. The single candle cup rises from a leaf-decorated bobeche, giving the pair a lively sense of movement and a striking silhouette from every angle. The aged brass surface adds depth to the sculptural details and gives the dragons a beautifully timeworn character.
Small in scale but full of personality, this pair would bring a romantic touch of Renaissance Revival fantasy to a mantel, desk, bookcase, or intimate dining setting.
