19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Secretary ~ Bookcase was hand-crafted from exotic imported hardwoods from the Americas to create a two-toned effect that is both unique and charming.  The staid architecture is typical of the genre, with no figurative carved elements or metal mounts to create an understated elegance.  The crown presides over a bonnet defined by molding and centered with a circular molding trim that is repeated on the surface of what appears to be a drawer between the upper glazed display tier and the lower cabinet, but is in fact the face of a pull-out desk surface that, when opened, reveals a writing surface and four interior drawers surrounding a cubby hole, the drawers being faced with yet another highly exotic and figured veneer.  Doors below open to reveal cavernous storage, while the upper doors are set with hand-rolled glass for display, and easy access to the original adjustable shelves.  Perfect for adding classical style without being pretentious!
