19th Century French Louis XIV Two-Tiered Bookcase ~ China Buffet is a magnificent example of fine furniture craftsmanship melded with timeless style!  Utilizing hand-select quarter-sawn oak, the artisans created a rectilinear two tiered architecture with a slightly recessed upper tier fitted with twelve glass panes allowing one to view the contents, which can be books, heirlooms or collectibles.  Starting at the top, the bold crown molding appears over the bonnet carved with shell and foliate motifs, duplicated in vertical form on the center stiles both above and below, adding a floral accent.  The upper doors feature a facing arch design, with carved banner and acanthus plume, with the entire tier framed by rounded and carved cornerposts.  The lower tier juts out a bit on all three sides, and features complementary carvings with sculpted wood panels instead of glass, providing more discreet storage, also framed by carved, rounded cornerposts that are tipped with scrolled legs and lion's paw feet.  In between the legs is a gloriously scrolled apron festooned with a large scallop shell flanked by scrollwork, foliates and wildflowers.  The upper tier sports a pair of adjustable shelves, with the lower tier fitted with a single fixed shelf.  Brass key guards and hinges complete the look.
