A refined 19th century French Louis XVI bookcase crafted in acajou moucheté mahogany, one of the most prized and rare forms of mahogany used in fine French cabinetry.  Acajou moucheté refers to the richly figured mahogany taken from the root and lower sections of ancient mahogany trees, where the grain develops a remarkable swirling, almost spiral movement.  This extraordinary figuring was found in trees that had grown for centuries, making it exceptionally rare today and deeply valued for its depth, warmth, and natural artistry.
The bookcase presents a classic neoclassical silhouette with a molded crown, elegant proportions, fluted side pilasters, tapered feet, and finely detailed ormolu mounts—cast bronze elements gilded with gold leaf, traditionally used in the finest French furniture as jewel-like architectural accents.  The ormolu corner mounts, rosettes, escutcheons, and delicate appliqués bring a refined Louis XVI elegance to the warm mahogany surface.
The double doors are beautifully composed with glass upper panels for displaying books, collections, or porcelain, while the lower panels feature exquisitely applied decorative veneer arranged in a lattice-inspired pattern.  This fine veneer work adds visual sophistication and craftsmanship while preserving the smooth, polished surface of the mahogany.  Note that the two original shelves are mounted on adjustable supports to adapt the display to your convenience.
With its tall, graceful scale, rare acajou moucheté grain and elegant ormolu detailing, this bookcase offers both beauty and function—an exceptional piece for a library, study, living room, or dining room where treasured objects can be displayed with distinction.
