19th Century French Louis XVI Neoclassical Mahogany Bookcase is a stately example of the revival of the ancient Greek and Roman architecture that has proved to be sublimely timeless!  Straight, rectilinear lines are enhanced by a boldly molded arched crown centered on the bonnet above, carved in glorious full relief with laurel wreath and sprays held together by flowing ribbon.  The bonnet is otherwise adorned with definitive molded detailing and a panel with seven Greek coins carved with rosettes appearing above the glazed doors below.  The doors are fitted with the original hand-rolled glass, and accented by fine molded detailing with acanthus rosettes appearing at the top corners, and fluted pilasters with Doric capitals forming the framework that is the cornerposts flanking the display area.  Original beveled and mahogany-faced shelves are inside, set on ingenious adjustable shelf supports.  Below are solid panels with cross-matched veneer set in their own molded frames accented on each corner with matching rosettes, providing more discreet storage at the bottom of the casework.  The panels are flanked by the base of the plinths on each side, adorned with quatrefoil overlay.  A bold base with bun feet complete the look.  The sheer natural beauty of the exotic imported mahogany requires no description!
