19th Century French Renaissance Hunt Bookcase ~ Bibliotheque is a majestic example of the breed, soaring to over eight feet in height and commanding a presence in any room!  Designed for an aristocratic family who had access to large tracts of land good for hunting, the carvings on the piece celebrate successful hunts, which meant rich and elegant dining for the entire family.  Carved grouse held by dogs' heads just as they would appear as retrievers in the field are positioned at the top of the corners on the upper tier just underneath a boldly molded crown and bonnet, carved in bold relief with naturalistic foliates flanking an heraldic crest.  The carved corner posts flank two generously glazed upper doors with their original hand-rolled glass that affords a wonderful view of your books or collectibles.  A full width drawer tier with integral nature-inspired carvings serving as drawer pulls appears between the upper tier and the storage cabinet below, which features superlative works of the sculptor's art in oval frames depicting the spoils of the hunt.  Bold molding and finely carved corbels and corner posts complete the look.
