19th Century Liegeoise Louis XIV Bookcase ~ Bibliotheque is a master work of the cabinetmaker's art, which is to be expected of the artisans of Liege during this period.  Known across Europe and beyond as masters of industry, the region is noted for exceptional craftsmanship.  Here we see select old-growth oak utilized to create the intricate yet restrained architectural design, with bold molding throughout emphasizing the recessed and mitered corners which creates an intriguing visual appeal.  Carved Baroque motifs appear throughout, lending a timeless Old World exuberance.  No less than 13 original hand-rolled glass panes remain intact, the thirteenth appearing on the center stile with carved embellishment overlay.  Cast brass keyguards add a nice touch, as do the urn-shaped turned legs.  Doors open to reveal 3 original shelves with the floor serving as storage space hidden behind the carved lower door panels for more discreet placement.
