Handsome in form and practical in design, this antique Dutch open bookcase was crafted during the early 1900s from solid white oak. Its tall, open profile offers generous display space while maintaining an elegant depth that allows it to work beautifully in a library, study, living room, or dining room.
The bookcase is defined by restrained neoclassical lines, beginning with a molded cornice and continuing through the simple carved details at the upper corners and the narrow vertical supports. Rather than being highly ornamented, the design relies upon balanced proportions, solid construction, and the natural character of the oak.
Five adjustable shelves make the interior especially versatile, allowing the spacing to be arranged for books of varying heights, collected objects, ceramics, or decorative accessories. The carved edges of the shelves provide a subtle finishing detail without overwhelming the simplicity of the piece. A paneled back adds depth and creates a handsome backdrop for anything displayed within.
Our in-house team carefully stripped the solid white oak, revealing the natural grain and soft, timeworn character of the wood. The lighter exterior contrasts gently with the warmer interior, giving the bookcase a fresh appearance while preserving its antique integrity.
