Napoleon III Period Walnut Bookcase showcases the talents of French master furniture crafters, executed in sumptuous French walnut and as sturdy as a vault!  Starting with three distinctively carved tiers in the crown molding above, one sees egg & dart, dentil and shell motifs.  The shell tier integrates with carved lion corbels at the top of each cornerpost, and down the corners are full relief depictions of noblemen, exotic creatures, and fruits & nuts representing the bounty of the earth.  An upturned larger corbel forms the base of the pilaster.  In between, The thick doors sport arched, hand-rolled glass framed in a dentil style molding with carved embellishments at the top, and privacy panels on the bottom third of the doors to conceal those things in the bookcase one would rather not display.  Note the heavy latches and fully mortised lockworks that were meant to provide maximum security.  The base features a colonnade effect with bold molding detail, leading down to the bun feet.  All four of the interior shelves, by the way, are mounted with adjustable stretchers allowing you an incredible number of interior configurations for your particular library or collection.
