PAIR 19th Century Liegoise Louis XIV Bookcases ~ China Buffets are a remarkable find, indeed!  The set combines a reduced footprint glass display case that rests atop a generously proportioned double door cabinet below combining display and storage with style!  The arched crown on top is boldly molded and features windows of glazing surrounded by finely carved molding as well as a stunning stylized scrollwork with floral and foliates serving as the centerpiece atop the arch.  The glazed cabinet doors continue the theme of finely carved framework, with added carved embellishment overlaid atop the edges of the glass, including the center stile which is attached to the right door.  Two shelves for three surfaces inside make for lots of display opportunities.  The buffet below measures 43H x 54.5W x 25D so it provides capacious storage, with incredible flair inspired by the era of Louis XIV carved in full and bas relief across the entire front.  Rounded cornerposts feature stylized shell and foliates, including acanthus plumes and escargots on the feet below, which frame the undulating apron carved with its own study of shell and foliate designs.  The doors are separated by a subtly carved stile also attached to the right door, and each features elaborately adorned, complex molding designs continuing the same design theme.  Doors and drawers are fitted with cast brass key guards and open to reveal voluminous capacity within, providing welcome storage capacity.
Circa 1890s
