PAIR Monumental French Louis XIV Bookcases ~ Bibliotheques will add a majestic element to any grand room!  Soaring over ten feet in height, each features a relatively narrow form considering the height, and both are only 20 inches deep, making them surprisingly floor plan-friendly.  One immediately notices the opulent crowns that create arched forms covering the entire top of each piece.  The crown is centered with a prominent heraldic crest in bold full relief flanked by upturned foliate sprays that cascade all the way to the shoulder corners, entirely situated on a bold multi-tiered molding.  The corners boast carved pilasters depicting flowing ribbon with foliates leading the eye down to the square and dot pattern incised on the face leading down to the upturned floral and foliate designs at the base, with the pattern interrupted in the middle with an elongated foliate rosette.  Each pilaster, like the crown above, is entirely hand-carved by master sculptors.  Between the corner posts are adjustable shelves with nicely finished trim, providing excellent display configurations that can be easily modified to fit your needs.  Each top rests on a pediment-style base which happens to be a storage cabinet, but one as fastidiously embellished as the carved detail above would suggest.  A full width drawer is lavished with foliate and vine motifs surrounding the shell carved around the keyhole.  Shorter versions of the pilasters above have been re-imagined for the corners, with a single door lavished with matching carved detail and framed with bold molding.  Exceedingly rare to find in this size and as a pair!
