Pair 19th Century French Louis XVI Caned Chairs with Distressed Painted Finish represent the essence of the neoclassical revival during the period!  Oval seat backs, contoured seats and tapered & fluted legs create the timeless architecture, while the hand-carved adornment sets this pair apart.  Spiral ribbon motifs encircle the entire apron with rosettes on the front plinth blocks over the tapered legs.  The seat backs are carved with laurel wreaths all around, and are topped with carvings of rose sprays.  The original caning on the seat backs is intact, but the seats will need to be upholstered in your coordinating fabric (of course seats and seatbacks could be upholstered if desired).  The painted finish has achieved a natural state of wear that is indeed charming, revealing the under coat for a splendid "shabby chic" effect.
