19th Century Hand-Painted Delft Blue & White Lidded Urn represents a departure from the Oriental styling and the introduction of a more European look that was part of the evolution of porcelains from the Delft region of Holland over the past three centuries.  This example continues with the cobalt blue monochrome style on tin-glazed clay, but with a decidedly stylistic rendition of flowers and foliage, with only a subtle use of bordering and a blue domed finial as the top of the lid.  Individually and painstakingly hand-painted, this work was actually signed by the artist, M. Schmeink and produced under the auspices of the original guild formed for the trade in Delft.  Historically significant, beautiful to behold, very well preserved and wonderfully collectible!
