Antique English Blue & White Transferware Lidded Tureen by S. Hancock & Sons is a rather unusual find by this particular maker that was established during the mid-19th century in Stoke on Trent, England.  The pattern was named Millais, and due to legal controversies over nomenclature they were obliged to call it "Semi-Porcelain" so as not to infringe upon Oriental imported goods.  A lovely floral spray pattern is repeated twice on the lid, and twice again on the tureen itself, with decorative rim and flourishes even on the sides and handles, with the bold cobalt blue retaining its rich coloration even after a century!
