Pair Antique Delft Blue & White Lidded Urns are yet another example of the fine ceramics that hail from the Delfts region of Holland.  One of the brightest players in the field was Petrus Regout, who established a name for himself along a crowded field of talented producers during the 19th and early 20th centuries.  The transferware was applied to the classic urn shapes using traditional cobalt blue for a rich contrasting coloration.
In 1851 Winand Nicolaas Clermont and Charles Chainaye founded a pottery in the Maastricht neighbourhood Wijck. Their company was taken over in 1859 by the Belgian engineer Guillaume Lambert and 1863 renamed to Société Céramique.  The company became a principal competitor of Petrus Regout's firm, which was renamed Sphinx in 1899. Both Sphinx and Société Céramique produced mainly earthenware.
