19th Century Dutch Wrought Iron Coat Rack with Delft Tiles

A charming marriage of Dutch ceramic art and hand-forged ironwork, this 19th century wall-mounted coat rack features six hand-painted Delft tiles in the traditional blue and white palette. The figures portray scenes of Dutch daily life and appear to include a town crier beside a posted notice, a bird seller or falconer, a tradesman carrying a pail, a musician, and women in period dress. Together, they form a delightful procession of townspeople and historic occupations.
The wrought iron frame was beautifully shaped around the tiles, with six individually forged hooks, scrolling side brackets, and a twisted iron rail crowning the composition. The Delft tiles remain in wonderful condition, preserving their finely painted figures and decorative borders. Equally suited to an entrance hall or mudroom for coats and hats, it could also bring character to a kitchen displaying antique copper pots and culinary utensils. Versatile, functional, and highly decorative, it is a unique expression of Dutch craftsmanship in Delft pottery and forged iron.
