19th Century French Louis XVI Giltwood Marble Top Console is a splendid example of the Gilded Age era, and with its four-legged design it makes a great choice as a sofa or hall table as well!  The neoclassic architecture is immediately apparent, with an intricate variation on Greek coin motifs embellishing the entire apron.  Look closer, and you'll see hand-carved egg & dart trim following the contours of the elegantly veined marble top.  On the wall side of the apron appears two rosettes, one on each side, with a rounded plinth block carved with banded wheat above the front legs interrupting the Greek coin.  Centered on the front facade is a single drawer with beaded trim and ring pull, with a foliate trim across the apron's base to finish the casework.  Four tapered and fluted legs provide support, meaning it can be placed against any wall or behind the sofa, or up against another larger piece without having to use attachments.  The legs are joined below with an intricate arrangement of stretchers with a serpentine form on the sides, and cove shape at the center, refined with spiral ribbon carvings and accented on the plinth blocks and at the center of the stretchers with carved rosettes.  The gold finish has achieved an incredible patina over the decades, only enhancing the lush carved detail and providing incomparable visual appeal!
