19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Console is a masterwork of the furniture crafter's art!  Created from indigenous French walnut, it features a large radius rounded side design that presents a minimum of intrusion into the traffic flow of the room, sometimes important in an entryway.  The beveled top features bump-outs that top the four rosette-adorned plinths that in turn rest atop the amazingly carved, turned and fluted column legs, which are lavished with tailored acanthus motifs.  Between the plinths above the apron is carved with a diagonal banded acanthus rosette-themed panel that stretches the entire width, interrupted only at the very center with an exquisite sculpture of a draped ribbon tied in a bow over a garland of roses.  Below, the legs are all connected to a complex form that combines the contours of the table above with a lyre shape centered with a turned finial.  Finely carved legs complete the design theme, but what sets this amazing piece apart is the original painted finish which has achieved a lovely patina, that contrasts with the gold highlights lavished on the carved detail from base to top!
