An authentic 18th century Louis XVI period secrétaire with subtle lingering gestures of Louis XV, reflecting the graceful transition between the two great French styles. The structure is grounded in neoclassical symmetry, yet softened by gently curved lines and refined movement in the carved ornamentation.
The slant-front falls open to reveal a thoughtfully appointed interior, created for daily correspondence and personal affairs. A fitted arrangement of compartments and cubbyholes provides organized storage for stationery and letters, while a discreet hidden compartment adds an element of intrigue so characteristic of fine period case pieces. The writing surface, supported by original hardware and sturdy hinges, offers both function and enduring craftsmanship.  Our expert in-house craftsmen have installed new faux leather for year after year of daily enjoyment.
The exterior showcases remarkable bronze hardware of exceptional quality, beautifully cast and richly detailed. The wood has been carefully stripped to reveal its natural warmth, yet it retains the depth and patina earned over centuries. The carved façade, with its classical urn, scrolling foliage, and medallion motifs, reflects the influence of antiquity that defined the Louis XVI era.
Elegant, practical, and historically expressive, this secrétaire remains as purposeful today as when it first served its original owner.
