19th Century Country French Secretary ~ Desk combines fine craftsmanship with an efficient, space-saving design.  Providing a work surface that folds out of the traffic pattern, plus in this case three spacious full width drawers, it performs multiple functions.  Very popular as a recipe center or student desk, such secretaries, when closed, add a style element to the room yet with the three drawers and drop front desk surface that provides efficiency that is hard to beat.  This example, carved from old growth fruitwood that has attained an incredible patina, features Louis XIV-inspired relief carving with fine molded detail and stylized floral and foliate themes.  Solid brass key guards and knobs add a nice visual touch as well as protect the key hole and provide easy access to the capacious storage.  The desk opens to reveal not only a work surface perfect for a laptop or tablet, but eleven interior drawers and four cubby holes creating excellent organizational opportunities.  Fine molded framing sets the facade apart, provides an intriguing profile on both sides, and culminates in a subtly scrolled apron.  Turned legs in front provide a classical accent.
