19th Century French Renaissance Writing Table ~ Desk ~ Sofa Table is unusually shallow for its type, making it a good choice for behind the sofa, in a cozy room, or anywhere a special Old World look is desired!  Sculpted from old-growth oak, it features a hand-carved edging in a foliate & demilune pattern around the entire top, making it presentable from any angle and a good candidate for center placement in a room.  Support is provided by clockwise and counter-clockwise barley twist column legs, connected by stretchers of the same motif, and accented by plinth blocks carved with rosettes.  At the center of the stretcher appears a turned finial ~ an unabashedly French affectation!  Urn-shaped feet provide support.  The drawer tier, however, steals the show with two drawers carved with lions' heads that serve as drawer pulls, each flanked by carved grapevine motif.  The drawers are accented by boldly carved acanthus rosettes at the center and on each corner.
