Vintage Country French Secretary ~ Commode in Stripped Oak is a remarkable design from the innovative staff at Rigaux, a famous European furniture maker located in the Liege region.  Utilizing solid quarter-sawn white oak, the craftsmen created a piece that will occupy a minimal footprint in the room, yet provide a top surface for display, a cubby hole for display or temporary storage, a drop-front desk with mirrored and lighted interior with faux leather writing surface, and three spacious full width drawers, all in a package just a little over two feet wide!  The oak is sealed but not stained, providing a natural coloration enhanced by the sheer natural beauty of the indigenous wood.  Pegged mortise & tenon joinery hark back to centuries of traditional cabinetmaking for which the region is so well known worldwide.
Since 1898, four generations of Rigaux cabinetmakers have been designing and manufacturing their furniture in their own workshops.  Rigaux master cabinetmakers have chosen to perpetuate the tradition of quality and finesse of Liège cabinetmaking with respect for wood and assemblies. Their team of sculptors, upholsterers and cabinetmakers work in the same spirit as that of the companions of yesteryear. Assembled by hand, RIGAUX furniture requires special expertise in working with solid wood. Based on original drawings, each piece of French oak is meticulously cut, adjusted, sanded, assembled, pegged to achieve an exceptional piece of furniture that you will enjoy every day.
