Set of six antique French Louis XVI dining chairs, hand crafted from solid oak and upholstered in their original leather, now softened to a warm, mellow brown. Each gently arched seatback is crowned by a hand carved ribbon tied in a bow, a favorite neoclassical motif symbolizing love and lasting bonds. Molded crossrails support the seatback, while subtly scrolled aprons with bordered edges rest upon gracefully curved cabriole legs ending in carved escargot feet.
The original leather upholstery remains in serviceable condition, functional and beautiful, its tones blending with the rich patina of the solid oak frames. Sturdy and comfortable, the chairs are ready for daily dining.
Made in the early years of the 20th century, the set reflects the enduring love for the Louis XVI style that flourished during the Belle Époque, when French cabinetmakers revived and reinterpreted the refinement of line and delicacy of ornament that define neoclassical design.
Wonderful around a dining table, a breakfast table in a kitchen alcove, or a game table in a library.
A matching antique French Louis XVI oak writing desk/game table/breakfast table is available separately to complete the solid oak setting.  See Related Products below left.
