Set of 6 Antique French Louis XV Walnut Dining Chairs represent the essence of the Rococo style, executed in a transitional manner with a more symmetrical design scheme but using the traditional ornamentation that so enamored the king.  The hand-select walnut was artfully sculpted into naturalistic forms so often called "French scrolls", with the seat back, seat and legs all exuding a graceful design that literally transcends time.  Floral and foliate carvings, rendered right into the framework itself, appear on the arched seatbacks, with acanthus plumes cascading over the shoulders and appearing once more just above the seat.  The seat is set upon an undulating framework carved with the same motifs that appear above for continuity.  The bold scrolled forms of the cabriole legs are enhanced on the front legs with exquisite renderings of stylized shell and acanthus plumes again, sculpted to perfection with escargot scrolls below enhanced with upturned foliate plumes.  Even the back legs are beautifully scrolled with escargot tips.  All of the chairs feature mohair upholstery, but for whatever reason two were fitted with rich green color, while the remaining four a mustard color.  Upholstery shows wear but is still serviceable.
