Refined Swedish Gustavian design distinguishes this antique set of six painted dining chairs, including two armchairs and four side chairs. The carved wood frames display pierced backs with slender vertical splats, geometric details, and shaped upper rails accented in muted gold.
Fluted tapered front legs continue the Neoclassical lines, while the two armchairs feature shaped supports and upholstered arm pads. The original painted finish has developed an authentic patina that complements the restrained gold ornamentation.
Blue and white check upholstery gives the set a fresh, tailored appearance. Inspired by the French Neoclassical furnishings introduced to Sweden during the reign of Gustav III, Gustavian furniture became celebrated for its light palette, balanced proportions, and restrained decoration.
