A handsome set of eight late 19th century antique dining chairs crafted from solid oak in the enduring Chippendale style, comprising two armchairs and six side chairs. Their richly pierced splats display the fluid curves and decorative symmetry that made the designs of Thomas Chippendale so influential throughout Europe. More than a century after his celebrated pattern books first appeared, cabinetmakers continued to reinterpret these elegant forms for gracious dining rooms during the late Victorian era.
Shaped crest rails frame the beautifully carved splats, while curved cabriole legs and carved feet give each chair a refined silhouette. The oak has developed a deep, warm patina that speaks to generations of use, complemented by leather seats in a rich russet tone. Generously scaled and increasingly difficult to find as a complete group of eight, the set brings history, warmth and distinction to a traditional dining room while offering a handsome contrast in a more contemporary interior.
