19th Century French Renaissance Exterior Door with Cast Iron is a stunning example of Beaux Artes Period craftsmanship and timeless architecture from a bygone era!  Meticulously hand-crafted from old-growth yellow pine, it features a majestic multi-tiered crown with intaglio carved foliates appearing over the magnificent cast iron inset that dominates the upper portion of the door frame.  Centered in the casting is a handsome nobleman situated on an intricate heraldic crest, surrounded by an amazing display of floral and foliate designs above and below.  That composition is then framed yet again with a surrounding border of intertwined scrolls punctuated with rosettes.  The entire iron work is framed like a painting in the detailing of the door frame.  Below the iron is another projected molding which features the brass handle surrounded by intaglio carving that complements the carving on the crown above.  A tier of dentil trim appears between that projection and the brass mail slot, under which is the lower panel with an interesting stepped-corner framework design.  Finally, a molded kick plate completes the design along the base.  On the reverse side, a framework designed for glass pane shuts out the exterior weather, yet opens to allow easy cleaning.  A shadow appears where the mail box used to be mounted, and the original bar lock that extends from top to bottom is still mounted inside!
