Antique Walnut Louis XVI Firescreen with needlepoint tapestry features a carved walnut framework with elaborate neoclassical motifs such as the torch and quiver of arrows, a wreath of flowers, egg & dart and even ostrich plume finials!  The framework is a work of art unto itself, but the tapestry clearly shows the talents of skilled artists, with needlepoint and petite point forming an image of a young maiden returning from market and encountering an acquaintance along the way, all set with the backdrop of an opulent chateau in the background.  Such screens helped keep ladies' makeup protected from the radiant heat of the fire during winter months, and provided a decorative screen to enhance the visual appeal of the fireplace during summer months.  The Romantic Age composition will surely bring a smile to you every time you sit next to the fire!
