18th Century Italian Baroque Giltwood Wall Mirror represents the essence of the style born of the creative minds of Italian master artisans during the early 17th century, and which developed into the inspiration for many style iterations in the ensuing centuries.  This example was sculpted by a truly talented artist who breathed life into the wood, creating a naturalistic and sensuous form born of acanthus plumes which have been the inspiration for European sculptors for millennia!  The graceful scrolls extend outwards from the central oval frame creating a more interactive design.  The relatively small size of the oval mirror is indicative of the times, when hand-silvered mirrors were quite expensive to produce.  The gold finish that was applied on the frame has achieved a lovely and captivating patina over the centuries only adding to its allure.
