19th Century French Louis XVI Giltwood Mirror is a magnificent expression of the classical style, with motifs employed that date back to ancient Greece and Rome, with the addition of flowing ribbon which was a trademark of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI.  The flowing ripping appears as a free-standing embellishment centered at the top, and resting on the framework that consists of spiral ribbon with dash & bead molded detail, accentuated with rosettes at each corner, and a laurel drapery cascading down from the upper shoulders.  Fabric swags are depicted on the base as a counter balance to the ribbon on top, for an overall neoclassical touch.  The original beveled mirror is still in excellent condition, making this unusually proportioned mirror ideal for special narrow places.
