19th Century French Renaissance Hand-Carved Giltwood Mirror was carved in the Italian style from solid wood, then gilded for an opulent effect.  The entire frame consists of shell, foliate and scrollwork motifs with fleurs de lys designs on each corner.  Atop the frame appears a separately carved crown which is removable, and if one so desired, one could orient the mirror horizontally and relocate the crown attachment or leave it off, whichever suits one's whim!  The framework is carved such that the mirror glass is projected out from the wall in a three dimensional effect, enhanced by the natural patina of the gold finish that has been achieved over the past century.  The original planking on the back designed to protect the silver is intact, showing the burned-in stamp of a Parisienne maker.
